OUTDOOR LEARNING
AWARD

A progressive approach to
outdoor learning.

The Campfire Award is a more progressive approach to outdoor learning which brings together forest school and outdoor classroom activities, as well as on and off-site camps, culminating in an expedition challenge and celebration evening.
The Award is designed to challenge students as they progress through their time at school, and provide them with a certificate of achievement upon completion of each of the phases.

What is the Campfire Outdoor Learning Award?

There’s more to this award than lighting fires and toasting marshmallows

We offer a fully customisable three step award scheme which will build a breadth of knowledge and skills, from a basic foundation day through to a multi-day bushcraft expedition.

This challenge could be branded with the school name, and additional challenges and tasks can be bolted on, to be undertaken outside of the annual camps.

The award is designed to be a genuine challenge for students, and although they will experience success, there will be tasks they may fail at too. This is an important part of personal development, building resilience and confidence, and we’ll be able to debrief these tasks so that they become positive learning experiences.

Phase 1 - Ember Award:

A fun camp for children to build friendships and learn new skills. The focus for this camp is building bonds and learning bushcraft basics. They’ll spend their first night under canvas and enjoy team building games, hikes and evening campfires.

Phase 2 - Spark Award:

This camp is a 3 day residential at one of our beautiful locations. It’s designed to add additional skills including more advanced fire lighting, cooking with fire, basic foraging, navigation, first aid and rescue skills. It will also include a wild camp night, sleeping in natural shelters or tarps and hammocks.

Phase 3 - Fire Award Expedition Challenge

This phase will put in to practice everything pupils have learned so far, with a 3 day expedition style challenge. They’ll be self sufficient, sleeping in bushcraft shelters overnight, preparing their own meals and covering distance each day between camps. The camp will finish with a celebration evening and party.
